On October 25, the reporter learned from the routine press conference of the Ministry of Transport that in the first three quarters of the year, the transportation economy was running smoothly, steadily and progressively, the passenger transport structure was continuously optimized, the freight transportation maintained a relatively rapid growth, and the structural adjustment made positive progress. The main indicators remained within a reasonable range and met expectations.

According to the introduction, in the first three quarters, the investment in fixed assets of transportation reached 2 trillion and 280 billion yuan, an increase of 1.4% over the same period last year. Highway and waterway investment reached 1.65 trillion yuan, an increase of 0.4% over the previous year, and 91.8% of the annual target of 1.8 trillion yuan. Among them, the investment in expressway construction was 702.6 billion yuan, an increase of 12.0% over the same period of the year. The investment in provincial highways and rural highways was 471.7 billion yuan and 354.8 billion yuan respectively, down by 14.4% and 1.3% over the same period of the year. The investment in waterway construction was 81.2 billion yuan, down by 7.9% over the same period of the year.

At the same time, the passenger transport structure was further optimized, and the business passenger traffic volume was 13.56 billion people, down 3.4% year-on-year, of which the waterway passenger traffic volume was down 0.9% year-on-year; the freight transport sector maintained a relatively rapid growth, with the business cargo volume 36.74 billion tons, an increase of 7.0%, including 6.3%, 7.4% and 7.2% in the first, second and third quarters, respectively. The speed is maintained at more than 6%, and the stability and sustainability of the growth are strong. From the perspective of different modes of transport, railway freight volume increased by 7.9% year-on-year, accounting for 8.1% of the whole society, and increased by 4.1% year-on-year.

On the port side, in the first three quarters, the cargo throughput of ports above the scale reached 9.95 billion tons, an increase of 2.6% over the same period of last year. Among them, the cargo throughput of ports above the scale increased by 2.7% in the third quarter and 2.3% in the first half of the year, respectively. The import volume of coal, crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas increased by 10.2%, 4.9% and 30.5%, container throughput increased by 4.9%, import volume of iron ore decreased by 1.7% and throughput of sandstone and other mineral construction materials decreased by 1.0% respectively. This is a concrete manifestation of the adjustment of port production structure, transformation and upgrading.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport said that in the first three quarters, key economic work steadily advanced, the structural reform on the supply side of transportation, with the emphasis on making up for shortcomings, continued to deepen, and positive results were achieved in serving the three major battles, supporting the smooth implementation of the major national strategy, accelerating the construction of the "four good rural roads" and ensuring traffic safety. Production regulation has been continuously strengthened.
